Madison Walker

Hello! My name is Madison Walker. I am a sophomore at the University of Florida in the College of Journalism and Communications, studying Journalism – sports and media. I am originally from California; however, in my last two years of high school, I was given the opportunity to attend a sports boarding school in Bradenton, Florida, called IMG Academy, and I then decided to call Florida home!

Leaving my home and my family at 16 years old to pursue a running career in Track and Field across the country embedded my love for sports into my personality. After graduating from IMG Academy, I chose to attend Texas Christian University on a Track and Field scholarship. Then after much deliberation, I decided I wasn’t quite ready to leave Florida yet and re-committed to the University of Florida.

While settling in at UF, I knew I had made the right decision for myself and my future. Since being here, I have had many opportunities in the sports world that have gotten me steps closer to a career of my dreams in the baseball community. In my first year, I worked as a writer for the WRUF Website, covering games and stories of all levels, I announced play-by-play and color commentary for the UF Student Radio for UF Baseball, Basketball, and Volleyball, I worked as the lead play-by-play announcer for the entire 2022 baseball seasons of Baldwin High School and Oakleaf High School, and I was the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, on-field emcee for their 2022 baseball season.

Being able to achieve so much in such a short time here at the University of Florida excites me knowing how much more I can accomplish while I’m here, especially within my week covering Spring Training!

Thank you for reading a little about me, and go Gators!
