Where are they Now? Former Gator: Alex Faedo

By

Before becoming one of the top pitching prospects for the Detroit Tigers, Alex Faedo was making a name for himself in the college world at the University of Florida.

Faedo shattered record during his time at Florida. In his final season, he achieved the highest win percentage in school history, set a school record and led the nation in strikeouts for a season with 157 and led his team to win the school’s first College World Series.

And don’t forget he earned the title of Most Outstanding Player in the 2017 College World Series.

After his time at Florida, the 2017 draft came around, and this time, the Tigers got ahold of him quickly. He was drafted in the first round, 18th overall.

He sat out his first season of professional baseball due to his workload at Florida, but started up in 2018, with the single-A Tigers affiliate, the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

After just two months, he was called up to the AA affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves. In 2018, he made 24 total starts between the two teams. He went 5-10 with a 4.02 ERA.

In 2019, he returned to the SeaWolves and went 6-7 with a 3.90 ERA. Every game that Faedo has played in in the minor leagues, he has started.

2020 Spring Training

Faedo has seen time in three games during this 2020 Spring Training season. His first was on the road in Bradenton to face the Pirates. He pitched for 1.2 innings, gave up two hits but racked up two strikeouts and did not let the Pirates score off the two hits.

Just a few days later, Faedo saw field time again, this time at home against the Blue Jays. He pitched one inning, gave up one hit but earned one strikeout.

Faedo’s most recent outing against the Yankees was his roughest. He pitched .2 innings, in which time he got two strikeouts, but gave up two hits, two runs, and walked two.

His first pitch resulted in a double, but then he snapped back with back-to-back three-pitch strikeouts. He could not keep his momentum up though and walked the next two batters.
